A Word from our Employees

Units and employees that were in Phase 1 of the PEAK implementation process began using the new centralized service model in December 2023. Below, you will find a variety of testimonials from fellow University employees that were part of that transition.

Why did you choose to join a central team?

I wanted the opportunity to specialize in a specific area of Human Resources Operations. In my previous position with the University, I was juggling finance, HR and daily operations duties. This was the perfect opportunity to develop my skills in an area that I not only enjoy, but an area where I felt I could really excel. I was also very attracted to the position being fully remote and allowing that flexibility for work location. Living outside of the Twin Cities, this is an incredible opportunity. - Staffing Specialist in Staffing Ops

What has your experience been like so far?

My experience so far has been great! It has been tremendous to join a large team and learn from people who have been at UR for decades. As a writer, it's been tremendous to work with other talented writers and be able to bounce ideas off of them, learn from them, and improve my writing. It's also been a lot of fun to meet new clients from across the University and help them with their marketing needs. - Marcom Creative Services team member

What is the biggest benefit of this change for you or your career?

The biggest benefit of this new position is the opportunity it provides in expanding my professional network. This position empowers me to establish connections and build relationships with many talented colleagues across the University. My previous position was much more localized and siloed. - Marcom Account Services team member

People working together

What was your biggest fear before moving to a central team? And how do you feel about that now?

My biggest fear before moving to FinOps was the fact that it was all so new. The fear of something so new succeeding, the fear of such a big change for me personally but also for the University as an entire. After now being part of FinOps for six months, I truly have no fear. The training, the teamwork and support that we have is outstanding! - Account Specialist in FinOps

What surprised you most about your new role in the operations center/common good services team?

The connectedness of the team. I was worried that working remotely may feel isolating, but I feel significantly more supported than I ever have before. It is such a relief to have a team where everyone from leadership on down is so engaged, positive, and driven. - HR Workforce Data Management team member

What would you share that people considering joining should know?

It is normal to have the fear of jumping into to something still so new, but I will never look back at the decision I have made. The team I work for has become another family and we all work so well together. - Account Specialist in FinOps
